Post Traumatic Stress Disorder occurs when anyone who has experienced an emotional traumatic incident (most common in war veterans and emergency service personnel). Certain triggers activate the fear response in the brain and cause the PTSD sufferer to relive their traumatic experience along with the emotional feelings associated. Common symptoms of people living with PTSD are the following:
Extreme Emotional Swings (i.e. from anger to sadness)
Nightmares and Night Terrors
Detachment from Family and Friends
Since the most common treatments for PTSD are talk-therapy sessions and opiates, there has been a big wave of sufferers of PTSD looking for a more natural treatment beyond addictive opiates.
According to studies and cases, it is believed that anandamide is the main reason for CBD to positively affect sufferers of PTSD. Research indicates that people suffering from PSTD have low levels of anandamide, this is a molecule released in the brain and has the role as a neurotransmitter, stemming from the Sanskrit word Ananda meaning "joy, bliss, delight". This "happy receptor" has a chink in its armor due to the traumatic experiences. CBD has a similar properties as anandamide and is believed by experts as the main reason for a change in mood, behavior, anxiety and stress relief for PTSD sufferers.
