What wellness benefits does CBD offer for pets?
Here's what you need to know about CBD for pets.

RESEARCH
In 2018, a study was conducted to assess the anti-inflammatory properties and anti-pain properties in dogs suffering from osteoarthritis. The dogs were given doses of 2 to 8 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. The results by two veterinary sources showed that 80% of the dogs had improvement in mobility and decreased by pain which was measured by the Hudson activity scale.
In 2019, a study was published that showed epileptic dogs who were given CBD in addition to their seizure meditation had significantly less seizures then dogs who were given a placebo plus their seizure medication. These studies highlight the medical potential that CBD has been gaining as an alternative natural option for the following in dogs:
  • Pain Relief
  • Anxiety/Stress
  • Nausea and Seizures
  • Inflammation
WHAT'S THE BEST METHOD TO GIVE YOUR DOG CBD?
According to a Colorado State University study in 2018, dogs that were given CBD oil orally for epilepsy were more effective then creams or gel capsules.
BUT HOW MUCH CBD SHOULD I GIVE MY DOG?
As mentioned above from the 2018 research, it is suggested to give 2mg of CBD per kg of the dog's weight.
Pets, like humans, respond differently to CBD dosages so here's some helpful tips:
  • Start off by giving your dog a low dose of CBD
  • Keep a log and monitor your pet's actions
  • If needed, slowly increase the mg intake
ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS TO GIVING YOUR DOG CBD?
Side effects from CBD are generally minor and not severe, if you are following the recommended dose for your dog's weight. Generally speaking, the side effects may include the following:
  • Dry Mouth - CBD decreases the production of saliva which may cause your dog to be thirsty or intake more water.
  • Lowered blood pressure - your pet may experience feeling light-headed or dizzy due to the temporary drop in their blood pressure. Ensure that your dog is in a safe environment when taking CBD and do not give CBD to pets who suffer from low blood pressure.
  • Lethargy - the calming effects of CBD may cause your dog to act drowsy or lethargic, once again, please note that you are maintaining a healthy dose of CBD
